A Software Update & GPS Assist are now available with Lynq Updater

We are committed to the continual improvement of the Smart Compass product and platform.  We work very hard with our engineers to incorporate as much user feedback as possible, and look forward to bringing you continual updates and improvements.

We have created an app we call the Lynq Updater to make sure your Smart Compass software is always up to date and utilize the GPS Assist tool - which shortens GPS Time to Acquire for your Smart Compass device.

Download the updater here: www.smartcompass.co/pages/updates.

System Requirements: Windows 10 or Mac OS Sierra (10.12).

More details:

To use the updater, you’ll need your Smart Compasses, a computer that’s connected to the internet, and a USB data cable like the one provided in your packaging to get started. (Please note not all usb micro usb cable are data cables).

In order to keep your Smart Compass up to date, or use the GPS Assist, all you need to do is download and launch the Lynq Updater on your Mac or PC.  Plug your Smart Compass into your computer via the provided USB data cable and follow the instructions at www.smartcompass.co/pages/updates.

  • Here’s what you’ll get in Version 1.4 of your Smart Compass's Software update:
    • Increased Standby Time to almost 20 days
    • New Battery & Charging Icon
    • Options for the Backlight - You’ll be able to select if your backlight stays on for 3, 5, 15, 30, or 60 seconds or to keep the backlight permanently off or on
    • Adjustments to how we use your Smart Compass's compass sensor to improve accuracy
  • Shortening the time to Acquire GPS
  • Some users have indicated that they are experiencing longer wait times than the expected ~12 min to acquire a GPS signal.  For those experiencing delayed acquisition times, we have included the GPS Assist function within the updater to improve their Smart Compass's performance.

In the Lynq Updater app, You will click the “GPS Assist” button while your Smart Compass is plugged in.  This will set an Enhanced GPS Acquisition Zone (EGAZ) which spans approximately 70 miles in any direction from the location you performed the GPS Assist.

Setting the EGAZ provides a quicker GPS acquisition wait time than its standard global acquisition wait times by telling your Smart Compass where to look in the sky for GPS satellites.

You can always reset the location of the EGAZ by connecting your Smart Compass to the app and performing the GPS assist.

Setting an EGAZ is optional to improve your acquisition times, however, your Smart Compasses will always acquire GPS globally completely unassisted.
